The Catalyst Spring Fair

Table of Contents

Spring in Moorabool has a rhythm to it. The orchards start buzzing, the community noticeboards fill up overnight, and suddenly every weekend has something worth getting out of the house for. This October, the Catalyst Spring Fair is bringing one of the best free family days of the season to Darley, and it is the kind of event where you want to arrive early, stay late and not worry about how you are getting home. A quick Darley taxi booking sorts out the transport so you can focus on the fun.

Here is everything you need to know before you go.

What the Catalyst Spring Fair Actually Is

The Catalyst Spring Fair is a free, family-friendly community event hosted at the Catalyst Community Art Garden, 31-37 Holts Lane, Darley. It runs from 10am to 2pm on Saturday 24 October 2026.

Proudly presented by Catalyst Community Services in partnership with Catalyst Baptist Church and supported by Greater Western Water, the fair brings together local makers, performers, food vendors and families for a morning (and early afternoon) of outdoor fun.

Here is what is on offer:

  • Petting zoo for little ones
  • Mini golf and a mechanical bull ride for the brave
  • Roaming performers and free snacks for the kids
  • Market stalls from local makers and small businesses
  • BBQ, wood-fired pizza and food trucks
  • Live music from Catalyst, the Moorabool Light Orchestra and the Bacchus Marsh Ukulele Club

There are no ticket fees and no entry charges. You just show up, eat well, browse the stalls and enjoy the music.

Why the Parking Is the One Thing the Fair Does Not Advertise

Holts Lane is a quiet suburban street in Darley. It is not designed for heavy event traffic, and if you have checked the official event page, you will notice there is no dedicated parking information listed.

That is not unusual for community events in the Moorabool Shire, but it does catch people off guard. Without a dedicated car park or event parking area, street spaces around the art garden tend to go quickly on the day.

If you are travelling with small children, a wheelchair user, or carrying bags full of market stall finds, a long walk back to the car is not the ending you want for a good morning out.

The Easy Way to Get There: Book a Darley Taxi

The stress-free option is to skip the parking question entirely. Pre-book online or get in touch to arrange a pickup.

When you book, tell the driver the drop-off address is 31 Holts Lane, Darley. You will be dropped right at the garden gate, and nobody has to wrestle the pram across three streets.

A few practical tips for your booking:

  • Book early. Community events create a spike in local taxi demand. Getting your booking in a day or two ahead means a confirmed time, not a wait-and-hope.
  • Mention your group size. Travelling with extended family or a larger group? Our fleet handles families and groups of all sizes, including maxi taxis and wheelchair-accessible vehicles.
  • Child seats are available. Let us know the ages of your little ones when you book, and we will have the right seat fitted and ready.

Coming From Melbourne? Two Simple Routes

If you are heading out from the city, you have two good options.

Option 1: V/Line train plus a short cab ride. Catch a V/Line service from Southern Cross Station to Bacchus Marsh Station. The trip takes roughly 45 minutes, and trains run about every 30 minutes on Saturdays. From Bacchus Marsh Station, Holts Lane in Darley is a quick taxi ride. Call us when you arrive at the station, or pre-book a pickup timed to your train.

Option 2: Direct cab from Melbourne. If you would rather avoid public transport altogether, book a Darley taxi and we will collect you from your door. This is especially handy for families with small children or anyone carrying gear.

Bacchus Marsh sits roughly 50 kilometres north-west of Melbourne. According to .id community demographic resources, Moorabool Shire’s population is forecast to grow from around 40,300 in 2024 to over 65,600 by 2041, making events like the Catalyst Spring Fair a genuinely important part of keeping the community connected as the region grows (source: forecast.id.com.au/moorabool, accessed September 2026).

Getting Home After the 2pm Finish

Here is the part most people do not think about until they are standing on Holts Lane at 2:05pm with 300 other families.

The fair wraps up at 2pm, and when a free event finishes on a fixed time, everyone leaves at once. If you are relying on a taxi at that point, you are joining the queue alongside everyone else who had the same idea five minutes ago.

The smart move? Pre-book a return when you book your ride there. Give us a pickup time of around 2pm (or a little later if you want to browse the last of the stalls), and your cab will be waiting when you walk out the gate.

This is especially important if you are travelling with young children, anyone with mobility needs, or if you simply want to get home before the post-fair tiredness sets in.
